What is DISC?

DISC Personality, Behaviour and Communication Analysis

DISC is often described as a personality test. In reality, DISC is really more like a “personality, communication and behavioural profiling system”.
A DISC Profile utilises a method for understanding behaviour, communication, temperament, and personality. A DISC profile provides a comprehensive overview of the way that people think, act, and interact. It is the most widely used profiling tool of its kind and is supported by decades of validation and reliability studies.

The DISC model provides a common language that people can use to better understand themselves and to adapt their behaviours and communication with others. This can be within a work team, a sales relationship, a leadership or management position, a parent and child, a husband and wife or any other relationships.

DISC Profiling can be carried out on either an individual, couples, teams, and families. Completing a DISC profile, is very quick and simple, you are given 6 mins to complete a series of 24 short questions that produce a detailed report about your personality, behaviour, and communication style. There is also a version designed for clients under 12. The report is clarified to you in great detail and bespoke tools and techniques are shared for you to take away and use every day.

I have been using the Disc profiling on myself, with my own family and friends, clients at Mindset & Solutions for many years. I have found each and every time fantastic insight into the personality, behaviour and communication styles that are revealed.

Over time our communication style will change; with life’s experience, depending on who we are with, and the environment we are surrounded by. The fascinating fact is, when we understand the level of each of the DISC that is evident within us, and recognise these communication styles about ourselves and each those who are interacting with us, we can simply make slight adjustments, and find the result is instant, and discover the changes in the relationships around will be profound, by simply having the awareness and knowledge of DISC.

The DISC Personality Profile is based on the work of renowned psychologist Dr William Moulton Marston, and was introduced in his 1928 book "Emotions of Normal People". William Marston, a contemporary of Carl Jung, developed the DISC Personality Profile after studying the personality traits, behavioural patterns, and instinctual reactions of thousands of individuals. As a result of his work, Marston developed the DISC assessment as a tool to measure four primary behavioural traits.

The DISC is a stand-alone session, it can be used at any point during the program but is not a requirement of the success of the program, it is however an excellent tool to know and would highly recommend for personal development, to understand yourself better.
